This Rolex GMT-Master ref. 1675 gilt is an example not to be missed by those who appreciate truly distinctive and rare watches. Its most defining feature is undoubtedly the dial, which over time has developed an extraordinary colour shift: warm, deep tones ranging from orange to light and dark brown, creating an almost autumnal effect. A true play of colours, made even more captivating when viewed in natural light. The bezel insert is perfectly matching and interacts harmoniously with the dial, resulting in a beautifully balanced overall aesthetic.
Beyond its visual appeal, the watch is also well preserved, especially considering that it is an early gilt GMT-Master from the very first production series, dating to around 1960. The first-series cornino case, although polished in the past, remains in good condition with correct proportions. The dial shows some natural signs of ageing here and there, which in no way detract from its charm, but rather tell the story of the watch. The bezel insert is also well preserved, and the movement is running perfectly.
From a period-correctness standpoint, the watch is extremely coherent in its main components. The case number 505,XXX is fully consistent with the caseback stamped I.60. The dial is a Chapter Ring MK2 “Swiss Only”, with luminous plots that react correctly under UV light. The movement is the correct calibre 1560 with “D” serial prefix, and is particularly interesting due to the presence of most of its original reverser wheels, a detail that is increasingly rare to find. The small triangle insert and the large-serration bezel are also period-correct and original. The bracelet is not present, but a Jubilee ref. 6251 with 55 end links is easy to source and relatively affordable. The only components that have been replaced over time are the hour, minute, and seconds hands.
A spectacular GMT-Master 1675 gilt—warm, distinctive, and full of character—perfect for the collector seeking a truly unique and uncommon example.
This watch has also been published in the book Rolex GMT‑Master 1675 – The Gilt Era by Fabrizio Artioli, Marco Di Falco, and Andrea Piccinini (Pyccy Edizioni), and was featured in the official exhibition held at Vicenza Oro Vintage in January 2026—elements that further enhance its desirability and collectible importance.
