Without a doubt, one of the true grail watches in vintage Rolex collecting. His Majesty, the Rolex Submariner 5513 Military, produced for the British Royal Navy, has always been among the most sought-after watches by collectors.
This is an exceptionally rare timepiece, made in very limited numbers. Even fewer examples have survived to the present day in truly collectible condition and with all original components still in place.
The Military Submariner features several distinctive traits that clearly set it apart from standard civilian production, including the fully graduated bezel, “sword” hands, the “T” marking on the dial, the military issue engravings on the caseback, the serial numbers engraved inside the caseback and, of course, the fixed bars.
This example is a reference 5513 and displays all the correct characteristics expected of a Military Submariner. The watch is “full spec”, meaning it retains all the military specifications required for this type: every component is correct, original, and period-correct.
Beyond its outstanding correctness from a collector’s standpoint, the watch is also preserved in excellent overall condition. The patina on the hour markers and hands is even and highly attractive; the bezel has faded to a beautiful grey tone; and the dial remains in good condition, showing the normal signs of wear consistent with a true military-issued watch. The caseback engravings are present and still legible, despite the watch having been polished over the years, and the case has retained its original proportions. Between the lugs there are no marks: the watch has never been worn on a steel bracelet, only on its NATO strap.
Sold almost 20 years ago by a well-known dealer and expert, this Military Submariner is now returning to the market directly from its owner, ready for its next collector.
A remarkable watch, completely original and very well preserved.
