Like many of my collector friends and clients, this Eberhard Rattrapante has also been part of my personal collection for many years. I loved it, wore it, and took great care of it. But now the time has come to entrust it to someone else who will preserve it as I have.
Purchased in 2016 from a well-known dealer, the watch has an exceptional pedigree. After thorough research, I was able to trace it in several important auction catalogs, including Habsburg & Feldman – Important Watches, Wristwatches and Clocks (December 1988), a year that holds particular significance for me as it is also the year I was born, and Christie’s – Important Pocket Watches and Wristwatches from May 16, 2005.
It is also accompanied by an official extract from the Eberhard & Co. archives, which I personally requested, as well as a correct-period box for the watch.
Enthusiasts of the brand know just how rare a piece like this is: very few Eberhard Extra-Fort Rattrapante watches were ever produced—likely just over ten—and finding one for sale in such exceptional condition is almost unheard of.
In my view, it is a truly beautiful timepiece: a 39 mm case with fluted lugs, a 16-ligne split-seconds movement, and a silver tri-compax dial with applied Eberhard logo.
The condition speaks for itself: the case has never been polished, retaining its original deep hallmarks and sharp factory lines; the silver dial is virtually untouched; the movement is fully original and in working order; the caseback features correct engravings and closes perfectly; and the original buckle is present.
An extraordinary watch that I hope will find a new owner who will wear it with the same passion I have had for it over the years.
