Omega has produced some of the most important watches in the history of watchmaking and, to me, the Speedmaster remains without a doubt the most iconic. Introduced in 1957, it has been released over the years in countless versions, but one of the most well-known and appreciated references is the 145.022, the first to feature the Calibre 861, successor to the legendary Calibre 321.
Among the most sought-after variants of this reference is the 145.022-69, the last to be fitted with the “Pre-Moon” caseback featuring the Seahorse, just like this example. From 1969 onwards, casebacks were gradually updated with the famous engravings linked to the space missions.
Today I am offering for sale a 145.022-69 in exceptionally good condition: the case, dial, bezel insert, caseback and movement have been very well preserved over time, and all components are correct, original and period-correct. The case has been lightly polished over the years, yet it still retains its original factory proportions. The dial is impeccable and has also developed a beautiful and highly attractive brown tropical patina, even and consistent. In addition to being so well preserved, this 145.022-69 also retains all of its original, period-correct components for its year of production.
A truly beautiful vintage Speedmaster, perfect to collect and to wear.
